National Dog Day

Today, August 26, is National Dog Day and I am celebrating by remembering those dogs I left behind at the Humane Society who still need homes.

I think I'm also getting a Frosty Paw as a reward for being a good dog!

Jon Jon's Story

Check out my new Flash movie that tells the story of how I was adopted!

Paddle with your Pooch

I had a lot of fun at Forest Park's "Paddle with your Pooch" last month. It was held on July 17 at the Boathouse in Forest Park and although I didn't win (I placed 5th out of 10 in my heat), I kept up with the big dogs. Win or lose - the proceeds went to a good cause - Forest Park - one of my favorite places in St. Louis.

Here's a picture from our race -

My mom and dad commanded our boat and I was the first mate - barking instructions and motivating my crew to pick up the pace. I think the extreme heat got to the crew towards the end, but I kept my cool and now I can say I have my sea legs.

I'll be back next year!

Shakespeare, paddle boating, & 4th of July!

My summer has been packed full of good stuff so far!

I saw "The Taming of the Shrew" at the Shakespeare Festival in Forest Park in June. The show was o.k. - but sniffing around people's picnics until I got some snacks was the highlight of my night.

I've been spending a lot of time at Forest Park - walking, sniffing around, making friends, and chasing squirrels. I've also gone to the Boat House a few times - I love it! Chasing ducks and getting plenty of treats!

My master also took me out on my first paddle boat ride to get my sea legs. I was a little scared at first, but after we got going, I was being called an "old sea dog." Come cheer for me in my first "Paddle with your Pooch" boat race on July 17!

On July 4th weekend I saluted our country by parading around in my Uncle Sam costume - Jon Jon is proud to be an American Cocker Spaniel!

Good Music at the Boat House

I spent last Friday night at the Boat House in Forest Park listening to a great band. We sat close to the stage and I fit perfectly under the table. As always, I got lots of attention from people and a few of them stopped by to pet me. I love attention from strangers - it would have been even better if they had treats for me.

Between the good music, friendly people and the water & treats the Boat House always has for us - I give my night at the Boat House 4 paws!

I can't wait for my next trip there - maybe next time I'll get to take a boat ride!

Happy Easter from Jon Jon!

I've been very busy this spring  that I haven't had time to post lately. I've been going on photo shoots, chasing squirrels, and running with my mom.

Here's a photo from my Easter photo shoot. I let my mom dress me up anyway she wants - as long as I get treats!

Jon Jon Celebrates Earth Day

It was a great day to be outside yesterday! I spent the whole day with my mom and dad.

I got to go to lunch with them at St. Louis Bread Company. While they were eating on the patio I stayed in the shade under the table waiting for one of them to feed me some of their lunch or at least drop something. Mom can be stingy so I try to stay near dad because he will drop something eventually. Sometimes I think he does it on purpose. As long as I get to eat, I don't care how or why I get fed!

Later we went to Wydown Park in Clayton. I dressed up as the Easter Bunny so my mom could make some Easter cards to send to her friends. I dress up for all of the holidays.

After finishing the photo shoot, we went to Forest Park. Earth Day was going on, so there were a lot of people to mingle with and get attention from. There were also a lot of other dogs there. It was a little hot, but there were water bowls for us around the park so we could cool off.

Here's a photo of me stopping to smell the flowers:

We walked around basin for awhile after seeing the sights at Earth Day and I made a new little friend. She couldn't talk yet and was hesitant to pet me, but came back to see me 3 or 4 times and kept smiling at me before her mom took her away.

The day ended at C.J. Muggs in Clayton. Mom and dad ate while I waited impatiently - it was past my dinner time! Luckily those two were a little more generous than they were at lunch and they gave me some bread and a few fries to hold me over - they were delicious!

The waiter was friendly to all of us and made my day by saying "Have a good day Jon Jon!" as we left. It looks like I've made another new friend!

Playing in Pontiac Park

I got to stay a my dad's place in Soulard this week. He lives across from Pontiac Park on South 10th St., so I always get to play there when I visit. On Wednesday, we went for a walk and then played fetch in the park.

We walked by Joanie's Pizza and my sniffer was really working smelling pizza cooking. There were a lot of people sitting outside on the sidewalk who wanted to pet me. They love me there! I always get a lot of attention - but what I really wanted was some pizza.

In the park, there were a lot of kids playing and a few dogs too. Playing fetch was fun until two boxers, who were off there leashes, got up in my grill and tried to take it from me. I had to bark at them and defend my territory until their master took them away. Those city dogs could learn some manners.

I had a good time at Pontiac Park. There was plenty of room to romp around, a lot of plants and flowers to sniff, other dogs to play with, and little traffic so it was safe when I crossed streets.

Overall, I give Pontiac Park 3 out of 4 paws.

Welcome to Jon Jon's blog!

This is Jon Jon – thanks for visiting my blog!

I’m a three year old cocker spaniel. I was adopted by my mom in November 2009 from the humane society. I now live in the lap of luxury in Clayton where I have the run of the house.

I get bored while my mom is away at work so I decided to write this blog – you can only sleep, groom yourself and wait at the door for so long.

This is the story of my adventures in St. Louis! - JJ
